It's the hap-happiest season of all

Today is Opening Day, my favorite day of the year in a photo finish tie with Christmas.  It encouraged no less than three Facebook updates before 10 a.m.  For the next six, wonderful months and 2,430 regular season games hours in bars will be slightly more entertaining, Baseball Tonight will be on the DVR for Top 10 highlights and trips to St. Louis to see the Cardinals (and my family, I guess) will be necessary.  Also, a meager $19.95 was spent on MLB.com Gameday Audio to make work way better...and I type this as I listen to Opening Day ceremonies at Busch Stadium.  How could I possibly miss "Jimmy Boy" Edmonds throw out the first pitch?

I'm just so giddy!

Mike Bauman, MLB columnist, probably says it better than me so I will give credit where credit is due.

It means that this is a time of beginning, of renewal...It is all new. Everyone is unbeaten. Everyone has a dream. Nobody has had time to have the dream smashed to smithereens, or realized, for that matter.

Make it a great one everyone!

Beautiful site.

My brother and I at the 2009 All Star Game at Busch Stadium.  One of the greatest days of my life and couldn't have spent it with anyone else.

omG girlz. Theez shoes were 300 dolla$z

Today, I attended a meeting that nearly made my head hurt.  It was a large-scale presentation for the fastest growing cable network for females 18-34 and that's all I'm saying.

It sparked the following instant message conversation between myself and a STRAIGHT male co-worker.

Me: Um, were you at that meeting?
Male Co-Worker:  yea.  It made me give up on women
im gonna turn gay for a minute and see how that works out
Me: Nooooo
Male Co-Worker: K, thx bye
Me: That made me embarrassed to be a girl
"omg, LOVE SHOES. LOVE BOYS. LOVE PURPLE!!!"
Male Co-Worker: GURL dump HIM.  UPGRADE.
Me: my brain melted when they said, "babies are hard...you're like what.  omg.  I have to buy diapers."

Those quotes up there, those are real.  They just happened.  I cannot make this stuff up if I tried (and maybe I could but surely not today).  My co-worker swears his writer's block continues into the late hours of the afternoon so God help him make until 5 p.m.

Like every level-headed young woman, I like to pretend I fall into a happy medium between femininity and being a "guy's girl."  I watch ESPN Baseball Tonight almost every night in the summer but wear four inch heels I can actually walk in.  I won't date a guy that can't grow a five 'o clock shadow.  Sometimes I drink and wear dresses and play air guitar to Bon Jovi and send stupid texts with lots of exclamation points!!  I've been sucked into America's Next Top Model marathons (hate Tyra) but need to go shopping at Sports Authority this weekend for a new glove.  Happy medium.

This post is me just me convincing myself that I am not the last hope for my gender and there are other females like me.  Please ladies, let's keep fighting the good fight.

"Kelly, what are you going to do with your life?"
"I'm going to get what I want."

Seagulls stole mah pancakes!

The other day I found myself explaining why I listen to country music. Truth is, when I lived in St. Louis, I found myself growing irritable about underdeveloped urban culture and angry music. In response I rolled down the windows to my car and blasted 93.7 The Bull.  Happy!  Yeehaw!

Years later, I still find it unreal how much bad music exists.  I'm not talking just talking about "Friday," the train wreck of this week.  Its verse "Gotta have my bowl! Gotta have cereal!" lead me into another piece of lyrical junk centering around breakfast foods.  Gucci Mane's new single, "Pancakes."

My brother is the Arts & Entertainment editor for his university's newspaper and is currently reviewing Gucci Mane's new album, which dropped today.  If you haven't seen this 'hood freak show, he has a face tattoo of an ice cream cone.  Totally normal.  Ryan shared some of his findings with me, leading to this photoshop filled rant.

Gucci Mane, go vroooooom!

In the spirit of "art" let me share some beautiful lyrics with you...which only come after my reaction below.

me:  BAHAHAHAHAH
dirty.
birds.
seagulls?
really.
seagulls?
Ryan:  hell yeah
 me:  I am speechless.
Ryan: likewise... It's just that incredible
 me:  I am vomiting

Pattycake!
Pattycake!
I hope around with pancakes!
I touch down with hashbrowns!
Syrup in my...

Oh, who cares.  Cracker Barrel, take note.  I see marketing opportunities abound.  As a former Crack House employee, I'm fo' realz.

Q1 Life Update

If this blog was a child it would be dead. So dead. Neglected, starving, lame and whimpering for help. I am a horrible mother.

Lots of changes have been happening lately. I have a new work "team" which is both scary, and exciting, as all of a sudden I am the go-to employee with thoughts of "don't screw up" running through my head. In the past few weeks my baby brother (22) visited, I saw my family for the first time since Christmas, taught mom how to say "Riesling," and generally spent time with some of the coolest people I know. I'm making excuses for ignoring this and I get that.

The other day I read my 2010 goals and I might as well review them, seeing as I shared them and all.

1. Looking for inspiration in the place St. Aloysius school told me to find it and then expanding upon that. A good friend and I had a heart to heart this weekend (over McDonald's) about how I was her "different" kind of friend. I firmly believe a person needs to make her own decisions but if I need to politely shove someone to get her head on straight, I will. I never mean to insensitive or brash, but only want to be strong for others when they may need me. For anyone who knows me this is somewhat ironic but I'm working on that too. Sometimes I need to find faith within other people and I'm thankful for the ones who provide it.

2. Obviously making the big suck on writing more. My daily writings have turned into a few times a week but, on the flip side, I've set a larger goal of reading more. This has been a subject on this blog multiple times but I'm on book #7, I think, of the year and currently being held captive by Water for Elephants.

3. Kicking ass is going good so far this year.  Surprisingly enough, this has predominantly been achieved by yoga.  For everyone who thinks yoga is child's play you cannot even fathom how incorrect you are.  I have tortured myself through 60 to 90 minutes of intense hot room stretching, weight lifting and downward facing dog to the point of vomiting.  After all this I can honestly say that I just feel in shape.  Mock that statement as much as you want but my biceps can punch the hell out of your face right now. Just ask the guy I hit in the face last week at dodgeball.

Half marathon is still on the "maybe" list.  However, the Bunny Rock 5K is a GO! Who DOESN'T want to listen to rock music and run 3.1 miles?

4. Being less indecisive. Heh. Still being vague, still not disclosing. I'll get there. Just give me moments.
