Emotions with Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm and I have a ton in common. Mostly we both wear St. Louis Cardinals hats.

Also, I work in advertising and he pretends to work in advertising on an Emmy winning AMC series.  So we have that going for us.

Today, my brother sent me http://emotionswithjonhamm.tumblr.com/ that I want to share.  Jon Hamm possesses an unmatched charismatic personality (did you see Bridesmaids?) and is just a cool dude to like.  I mean, look at him.  He is so manly.  Enjoy.

Ride it, my pony

Sometimes the literary geniuses of my company's communication department find a website gem and share it with the masses.  Today is one of those days with Dancing Alone to the Pony.  It's a simple concept; people dancing alone to the greatest sex anthem of 1996.

The title of this site says it all: "Dedicated to the solitary soldiers keeping the grind alive."

I picked this one, because of Connie's hilarious attempt to keep it sexy in the wilderness.  Crack kills, Connie.

Subj: Whore Blog

is what I would have called it if it were me...

I mentioned this at sushi the other night. Basically if Pretty Woman kept a blog it would be this. And also if she did a little more coke and had an abortion (spoiler alert).

Happy reading: http://nightmarebrunette.blogspot.com/

p.s. I found out about this because of her article on salon.com

My friend Liz sent myself, and seven of her other friends, this e-mail today.  By the time I read through the chain I read the statements, "I have a weird fascination with prostitutes," "envying someone for prostituting is like envying someone for eating at McDonald's," and "I have obviously considered multiple scenarios in which I both eat at McDonald's and prostitute myself.  I think the sky's the limit." The last one is Liz and, thanks to making this e-mail chain public, you all know how she funds her law school experience. Joke.

I couldn't help but laugh before actually reading the source and replied with,
My Dearest Liz,

According to our madame here, "there's no entrance exam when it comes to sex work." Well Liz, you're a strong willed woman and I believe that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Even if that thing is whoring yourself out at the local Mickey D's. So drop that LSAT talk lady, let's find you a suitable John with a strong pimp hand. Dream big.
Your biggest supporter,
Theresa
For real though, after reading the stories of Charlotte Shane (whom writes under a pen name) the more I become interested a woman I cannot relate to on a surface level.  She writes with transparency while protecting herself at the core.  She's only a couple years older than me but, for obvious reasons, conveys a level of wisdom beyond my understanding.  If you can look past her questionable career choice and shun your judging aside, it's just another girl exploring her place in the world.

This is Why I Blog (sung to the tune of MIMS)

Growing up, I always had a diary.  It's unfortunate that most of those (and there are many) are incomplete.  My fascination with the diary was inspired by the 1964 novel, "Harriet the Spy" by Louise Fitzhugh - the worn out paperback still sits on my bookshelf.   I would start these memoirs for summer vacations and new school years alike.  Now, when I see the blank pages I wonder just what happened.  Where did I go?  How did I feel?  I must have been enjoying myself at least.  According to the scribbles and loopy lettering, an 11-year-old me enjoyed traveling around the Midwest with family, had crushes on boys who fell off the radar a a week later, and surrounded herself the best friends EVER.  I can't help but feel nostalgic, even tearful, when I see notes about being lonely after moving away from my hometown or the passing of my amazing grandparents.

When I went home for the holidays Ryan and I found a Babysitter's Club Little Sister (ladies, you know what this is) "Memory Scrapbook."  I was around seven or eight when I filled out the pages, mostly fill-in-the-black sentences containing profound statements such as:

My favorite lunch at school is good.
The school carnival was fun.
It's the last day of school!  This summer I will miss the girls.  I will not miss the boys.

So now I'm an "adult" by society standards with a grown up, 21st century version of a diary.  You're reading it.  Unlike the lock and key books of my younger years I chose to make this one public.  It's more censored and a lot more expressive.  I don't talk about my daily life or one topic and, honestly, and it has relatively no direction whatsoever.

I love it that way.

One of the amazing aspects of blogs is the sheer mass of them out there.  Some blogs probably have not been touched in years, others only center around specific moments or aspects of a person's life.  I think I started one about studying abroad, I don't really remember.  People write about new members of the family, big moves across the country and a particular hobby that they want to share with anyone willing to give them 33 seconds.  Either way, writings belong to one person and nobody else.  A writing can be shared, discarded or forgotten; either way, it always belongs to the author.

I'm simply here because I love to write.  I live in an age of mass expression but where the sheer volume of voices silences many who open their mouths.  So whoever reads this blog, thank you for supporting me doing what I love.  Plus, I hope I can make you think or laugh on occasion.  Would I write if I had zero followers and nobody cared?  Absolutely.

But I love you anyway.

Man, I am so into this birth of Christ thing

Christmas music on Pandora is the only thing keeping me sane at work right now. This means I am on my way to going INsane and I only have an hour of Pandora listening for the month left. Freak out.

Anyway, I am way in the holiday mood this year and love to share fun new sites. That being said, I present SketchySantas.com!  The tagline is simple, "Santas can be sketchy."  I know for certain Ryan and I have a picture that would definitely qualify for this site.  Imagine me, at age six, slouched on Santa's lap with a scowl on my face.  Then imagine that same scowling (yet, oh so adorable) six-year-old wearing purple sweatpants and a pink sweatshirt adorned with Tweety Bird and Sylvester graphics.  That's me.  Thanks to White Oaks Mall for the memories.

Picture is credited to SketchySantas.com.  Nothing is better for the children than a retro alci grandpa Santa.

Pee Your Pants website of the Day!

Sometimes we stumble across websites that make us laugh so hard our face hurts. By the magic of little to no productivity in the office on a Friday afternoon, I bring you manbabies.com. This website causes me sadness that I did not take a photo shop class. Also, great joy as my face hurts so bad from laughing. Enjoy!

Epic fail!

Liz sent me this new blog and I would like to share it with everyone that does not read this blog! Thanks followers! Cake Wrecks - the most hilarious site I've seen about baked goods in...ever. Here are just a couple examples of bizarre world of caking making. Granted, some are adorable but that's not what I'm still laughing about. I can't even put up the pregnancy cake, pregnancy is gross enough without putting up a stupid yellow cake stomach covered in sugar frosting. Bleh!

Here is definitely one of the weirdest.

Mommy Mommy Magazine

With literally hundreds of magazines crossing my path at work I often glance at titles for fun. Print exists for every health ailment, relationship inadequacy and celebrity fascination out there. Among them there is an incredible amount of magazines concering parenting - rumored to be the most difficult job of all. How to feed, the best schools, should kids watch TV or not? Bla, bla, bla. New comer Cookie proudly boats it is for the "upscale" mom - whether this is for the suburban house wife or the power working mommy I am not certain.

Hell, I am 22 years old and my parents still exhibit naivety when it comes to my transition into adulthood.

These magazines make me wonder whether these readers are more concerned with parental success - or failure. "Mommy bloggers" are some of the most active producers of original material presently on the internet. Their impact is far reaching and affects everything from appropriate advertising and product segmentation. Women no longer just ask their mothers or matronly friends for help - they go to the blogosphere at the slighest jolt of misbehavior from Junior.

As someone with absolutely no aspirations of becoming a parent in the near distant future I will most likely watch these publications develop and fold from the sidelines. Until the time I find it necessary to pick up the magazine Conceive for the...ya, I think you understand.
