20 Brands & Products that Died in 2009

This is a photo I took at Circuit City before the store closed its doors. Note, the store was selling shopping carts just to make a quick buck.

The Loss of American Brands

We are only 58% of our way through 2009 and already we have seen many American companies ventures topple off the Capitalism pedestal. I was intrigued by the quality of this list of major American corporations, brand extensions and family-owned business that plummeted into bankruptcy. I was clueless Hard Rock even managed an amusement park - the company has a difficult time producing a decent menu. With the loss of brands can come a loss of identity. Pontiac, the invention of the American muscle, will cease to exist. The same with Hummer; the vehicles that at one time brooded American self-indulgence and excess is now being gobbled up by an Asian company just to say afloat. Eventually these symbols of American innovation will rust and be forgotten, just like its predecessors.

Definitely an article worth reading and reflecting.
